🤔 Are AWS Certifications Enough to Land Me a Job?
A common question I often get asked is, “Will an AWS certification get me a Cloud job?”.
The short answer is no; AWS certifications don’t provide a direct pathway into the industry.
AWS Certification Badges
However, AWS certifications are still valuable.
Being certified gives you benefits of enhancing your credibility and commitment as a learner to potential employers.
The key takeaway here is that certifications shouldn't be your only focus. Practical experience is also essential, if not more effective, for securing a Cloud job.
💻 How to Land a Cloud Job in 2025
Once you’ve obtained your AWS certification, here are the steps you can take to increase your chances of getting hired in the Cloud.
#1 Build hands-on experience
You should start by gaining hands-on experience through building projects.
The goal of building projects is to showcase your ability to design and implement solutions using AWS services to your potential employers.
Example: Create a 3-tier web application, which includes a front end, back end, and database
Showcase your project: Document your process and share it on LinkedIn to demonstrate your problem-solving skills to potential employers
#2 Understand IT fundamentals
Once you’ve built some projects, dedicate some time into finding out more about IT.
Although studying for AWS certifications exposes you to ranging Cloud concepts, you’re expected to already have a understanding of basic IT principles.
Having a solid foundation in these fields will help you work effectively with multiple AWS services:
Networking
Compute
Databases
Storage
Security
This step will also prepare you for Cloud job interviews, particularly in answering technical questions.
#3 Develop soft skills
We've only talked about technical skills up to this point, but working in the Cloud also requires you to have strong communication and collaboration skills.
This often is a major deciding factor when it comes to hiring a candidate. Here’s how you can improve your soft skills:
Communications skills: Practice explaining technical concepts in simple terms to people who are less familiar with tech
Interpersonal skills & teamwork: Participate in workshops or hackathons by working with other people
#4 Prepare for interviews
Last but not least, you’ll need to prepare for your interviews. A Cloud job interview usually consists of some technical and behavioral questions.
Technical question sample: What tools does AWS provide for monitoring resources?
Behavioral question sample: How would you deal with a customer complaint?
An effective way to prepare is doing mock interviews to help you get comfortable and confident in demonstrating your skills and knowledge.

🤫 PLUS: Nuclear Power to Support AI Development
Google was reported to install six small nuclear reactors to support the expansion of its AI data centers.
💡Here’s what you need to know:
The growing demand for nuclear power stems from the high energy use of graphics processing units (GPUs), which are essential for training large language models (LLMs) in AI
As companies expand their data center infrastructure, concerns about energy consumption and environmental impact grow
Tech firms are leveraging their role in AI to negotiate favorable conditions for energy infrastructure development
Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are all considering nuclear power for their data centers expansion.
While big tech companies claim that AI could help tackle climate issues, the feasibility of these benefits might still be far off, and current emissions may be underestimated.
