Hi friends, welcome back to Cloudbites
In this newsletter, I'm breaking down the AWS skills employers are actually looking for in 2026.
You'll learn which skills are becoming more valuable and how cloud hiring is changing.
Plus, we'll take a look at Google's new 24/7 AI agent.
CLOUD COMPUTING ☁️
☁️ The AWS Skills Employers Actually Want in 2026
If you're learning AWS right now, there's something important you should know:
The skills employers wanted a few years ago aren't necessarily the skills they're looking for today.
A few years ago, knowing AWS was enough to stand out.
Today, thousands of candidates have cloud certifications and basic AWS knowledge.
🔍 What's Changed?
AI is becoming part of every workflow.
Automation is becoming the default.
Companies want to reduce cloud costs.
Teams are expected to move faster with fewer people.
As a result, employers are looking beyond AWS service knowledge and focusing more on practical skills.
💡 The Skills That Matter Most
Despite all the changes, some things still need a human behind them.
#1 AI Skills
Employers are looking for people who understand tools like Amazon Bedrock, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI application development.
#2 Automation
Companies want engineers who can automate deployments, testing, monitoring, and infrastructure provisioning.
#3 Security
As more workloads move to the cloud, security continues to become more important. Understanding security best practices can help you stand out.
#4 Cost Optimization
Engineers who can build cost-effective solutions and reduce unnecessary spending are becoming increasingly valuable.
#5 Troubleshooting
Things break all the time in the cloud. Knowing how to investigate issues, identify root causes, and fix problems is a skill that employers highly value.
💡 My advice:
Learning AWS is still important. Just don't stop there.
The engineers who stand out in 2026 are combining cloud skills with AI, automation, security, and strong problem-solving abilities.

🤖 PLUS: Google Just Launched A 24/7 AI Agent
Google recently unveiled Gemini Spark, a new AI agent designed to work in the background and complete tasks on your behalf, even when you're not actively using it.
💡 Here’s what you should know:
Google says Gemini Spark can manage long-running tasks like research, email workflows, and information gathering.
This is a major shift from AI chatbots that only respond when prompted.
Bigger picture: The next wave of AI may not be better chatbots, but AI agents that can actually do work for you.
For cloud engineers: Companies are investing heavily in agentic AI. Understanding how AI agents are built and deployed could become a highly valuable skill over the next few years.
THAT’S A WRAP
